Basic Blacksmithing
10:00 am - 3:00 pm
Cost: $65
Set up your campsite with a heritage flair, reminiscent of the voyageurs! Create your own iron tripod with S-hooks and learn blacksmithing skills at the same time. Upon completion, you have a practical, durable cooking implement. No previous blacksmithing experience necessary. Don't forget to wear something you don't mind getting dirty!
Ship's Lantern
10:00 am - 3:00 pm
Cost: $80
Make a nautical ship's lantern - great for seafarers and landlubbers alike! Participants will lay out and punch a decorative pattern for a tinplate ship's lantern. The lantern parts will then be formed and soldered. Materials (tinplate & crown glass) will be supplied. A ship's lantern was designed to be carried in the hand or secured to a ship's bulkhead by the brackets soldered to the back.
Birch Bark Basket

Cost: $65
Learn the art of basket-making using birch bark and spruce roots. The Ojibwa "mukuk" is both beautiful and versatile. Once you learn the basic techniques, you can adapt patterns to different sizes and shapes. Ideal for storage, display or as a distinctive gift.

Coppered Sauna Pail (3 Day Workshop)

Make a small pail of white cedar and black ash, using the hand tools and basic skills of the Cooper's trade. Called a piggin, this one-handled container is ideal for use in the sauna!

Get a start on your holiday baking and learn about heritage foods at the same time! Choose from a variety of 19th-century recipes and bake three desserts of your choice in our historic kitchen. Recipes, ingredients, aprons and pastry boxes provided.
Decorative Tin Panel

Add an eye-catching touch to any room with a decorative pierced tin panel. It can stand alone as an attractive ornamental piece or complement existing home furnishings as a welcome plaque or a unique cupboard front. In this workshop, you'll create your own design and pierce a decorative pattern into a 20" x 14" sheet of tin plate.
Anishinaabe Cattail Mats

Cost: $65
Learn the weaving techniques of the Anishinaabe (Ojibwa/Chippewa) peoples and weave your own cattail mat. You'll learn about the importance of cattails to the Anishinaabe people, when to harvest and the traditional uses of this wonderful plant. Your finished cattail mat will be at least 2 ½' wide and 4' long.

Holiday Decorations

Cut, hollow, punch & shape your own tinplate holiday decorations. Try your hand at making icicles, stars, or a holiday angel.
Lantern Stand

Use the blacksmith's forge to make three handcrafted lantern stands for your garden or camp. These stands are suitable for hanging garden/patio solar lights (not included). Each stand will be approximately 20 inches high. Don't forget to wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty!

Traditional Bush Wrap Moccasins (Mukluks) (2 day workshop)

Be a true northerner and own a pair of fleece-lined mukluks, or surprise someone special with a unique gift! This two-day workshop teaches techniques in creating and customizing a pattern and working with moose leather.

Put fresh ground nutmeg in your holiday eggnog! Learn the skills of the tinsmith in this workshop with a festive theme. Lay out and punch, swage and solder your own nutmeg grater, and finish with a bedroom candlestick for good measure. Both make great handmade gifts for the festive season.

The drum is perhaps the most ancient form of instrumentation. Join this small group workshop and explore the roots of rhythm by making your own hand made drum made from natural materials such as deerskin rawhide and a maple drum hoop.
Four-directions Drum Bag

Take home your new drum in a customized drum bag in the Ojibwa style, using the colours of the four directions.
