Rock the Fort Wins Discovery Award

July 5, 2007

Awards and recognition continue to pour in for one of the most successful events ever staged by Fort William Historical Park. Rock the Fort, the three-day outdoor music festival staged by the Fort, has won the Discovery Award from the Ontario Ministry of Tourism for Best Practices.

The Best Practices award honours the person or team whose implementation of a creative concept has resulted in a positive impact for the Ministry. Rock the Fort 2006 attracted 45,000 patrons and created $3.5 million in economic impact for 70 businesses in the Thunder Bay area, while becoming the largest outdoor music concert in Northern Ontario.

Fort General Manager Sergio Buonocore and members of his management and staff were on hand to receive the award in Toronto last week.

"We are very honoured to be recognized by our colleagues for the achievements of Rock the Fort, "Mr. Buonocore said. "This award is shared by each one of our hard-working staff."

Rock the Fort 2006 won the Best Event of the Year award nationally from the Tourism Industry Association of Canada (TIAC), provincially from the Tourism Federation of Ontario (TFO) as well as winning the Ambassador Award locally from the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce.
