Flyboard Ride FAQ

Flyboarding is a unique and exhilarating experience. Riders get to "fly" above the water and control their flyboard with their body movements and positions. It's like surfing in the air!

When you sign up for your flyboard ride you will receive instruction from your flyboard instructor on dry land before you head out onto the water. Once out in the water your feet are connected to the board in a set of bindings, similar to skiing or snowboarding. The board itself is attached to a long hose which is connected to a jet ski. The licensed flyboard instructor controls the power of the flyboard using the throttle of the jet ski. The instructors will teach you how to position yourself to rise into the air, dive like a dolphin and spin around like a top.

Make sure you bring a towel, your bathing suit and a change of clothes as you will be getting wet. Change rooms will be located near the flyboarding dock on the main wharf of Fort William Historical Park.

Get ready for the ride of a lifetime!
Q: How old do I have to be to flyboard?
A: 14+ (if under 18 years of age, signed parental consent required)

Q: Do I need to be able to water ski or wakeboard to flyboard?
A: No, flyboarding is a completely different water sport, requiring a different skill set. Being athletic helps but the most important thing is to listen to the instructions for success. The learning curve is very intuitive and you will impress yourself your first time out. Go stand on the edge of a curb…good… now you can flyboard.

Q: How long will it take me to learn?
A: On average it takes about 10-15 minutes per person to learn the basics and be up in the air flying around. The full ride experience from on land training to flying will take approximately 20-30 minutes.

Q: What equipment do I need to bring to flyboard?
A: All you need is a bathing suit and a towel. Change rooms will be located near the flyboard dock.

Q: Do I need to be a strong swimmer in order to ride the flyboard?
A: Absolutely not. We do encourage our riders to be able to at least swim as this may give them more confidence in the water however a life jacket will be used at all times so even non swimmers would be welcome.

Q: Does flyboarding require a lot of strength, balance, and endurance?
A: Strength no, balance… a little! If you can stand on a curb, you can flyboard. As far as endurance goes, that’s up to you and how hard you push yourself during your flight. Generally you can fly for 20 minutes and still be smiling.

Q: Is it safe?
A: Absolutely! All of our instructors are our trained and certified to teach flyboarding lessons and have successfully taught over 20,000 people. Our instructors teach each lesson based on the person flying and their individual needs.
