New Year's Eve Family Frolic

Saturday, December 31st • 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Ring in the new year and help kick-off Fort William Historical Park's 50th anniversary at New Year's Eve Family Frolic! Enjoy an evening filled with a variety of fun indoor and outdoor activities. Fort William Historical Park will be celebrating 50 years of bring life to history in 2023!

  • Senior, Student & Youth - $8
  • Children 5 & Under - Free

Enjoy a variety of family-friendly activities and demonstrations including:

  • Visit the Farm animals
  • Forging demonstrations by our blacksmith
  • Glow Room with glow-in-the-dark activities
  • Historical characters
  • Live music
  • Crafts
  • Cannon salute to welcome the new year

*Activity schedules may change or be cancelled in the case of extreme weather conditions.

A variety of family-friendly options will be available.

What to Bring

  • Dress for the weather – Many activities take place outdoors.
  • Cash – There is no ATM available.

Getting Here

  • Car – Fort William Historical Park is located at 1350 King Road, Thunder Bay. Parking is free.
  • Bicycle – Cyclists are welcome. Bike racks are available to use free of charge.
  • Thunder Bay Transit – Fort William Historical Park is part of the 4 Neebing bus route. Please visit the City of Thunder Bay Transit website for specific bus route information.
  • Snow Machine and River Access – There are no admissions via the Kaministiquia River.

Pets

Pets are welcome at Fort William Historical Park, however, we ask that you adhere to the following when your pet is on our property:

  • Pets are not permitted inside the Cantine Restaurant, Gift Shop, McGillivray’s Landing, or the Café Kam.
  • There is outdoor, pet-friendly seating available at the Cantine Restaurant.
  • Please clean-up immediately after your pet using a disposable bag and place it in an outdoor waste receptacle.
  • Service animals are allowed in all places to which the public is admitted.

  • All tickets are non-refundable and non-exchangeable.

Great Rendezvous Celebration • July 8-16, 2023

Enjoy a variety of exciting programs and activities that celebrate the people who helped build Fort William Historical Park and its fur trade history, culminating in a weekend re-enactment.

Great Rendezvous Historic Re-enactment • July 14-16, 2023

Rendezvous is a re-creation of the annual summer gathering held at Fort William over 200 years ago when it was the inland headquarters of the North West Company, which, at the time was the world's largest fur trading enterprise with posts stretching across North America. During Rendezvous, French-Canadian voyageurs, Scottish businessmen, Indigenous Peoples, and other from various places around the world would gather at Fort William to discuss business, share news and renew friendships.

Historic re-enactment participant packages will be available fall 2022. 

Historic re-enactor camping will be available July 13-17, 2023.

The origin of the Star of Bethlehem has been mystifying star gazers for millennia. What produced such a bright object in the night sky – a new star, a supernova or something else? With our programmers as your guides, the most popular theories about the origin of the Star of Bethlehem.
