The Deputy joined in the festivities, paddling a voyageur canoe along with FWHP General Manager Sergio Buonocore, delivering greetings to visitors, handing out Canada Day birthday cake and taking a turn milking a cow while enjoying a historical tour of the Fort.
Over 4200 visitors turned out to enjoy games, contests, and loads of other family activities.
There were contests for apparel displaying "Canadian Pride." There were also prizes for voyageur wrestling, log sawing and potato sack races. A good-natured tug-of-war pitted Visitors versus Historical Characters in the Main Square.
Visitors joined in the singing of O Canada. Greetings were also provided by Thunder Bay Mayor Lynn Peterson, City Councillor Linda Rydholm, and MP Bruce Hyer.
Rounding out the day are children's crafts, face painting, children's games, a "duel for honour," a fire engine drill and live entertainment.
