Fort William: A Hub for Progressive Partnerships, Both Then and Now

The success of Fort William and the North West Company of the 1800s was built upon the unique and cooperative partnership among European fur traders, First Nations peoples, the Mètis, and French Canadians, an ambitious and dynamic partnership that ultimately helped to forge the foundation of Canada.

Today, Fort William Historic Park (FWHP) carries on this entrepreneurial tradition in Northwestern Ontario, serving as a hub for innovative and progressive partnerships in its role as an economic catalyst. This acknowledgement of both heritage and change is underlined by FWHP's appropriate motto, "Preserving the Past, While Building the Future."

Fort William Historical Park is proud to partner with many local businesses and organizations in the region and beyond. FWHP's integral position and solid connections in the community are reflected in its prominent presence in its partner facilities that includes the Thunder Bay International airport, local hotels such as the Travelodge Airlane and recreational venues including the Whitewater Water Golf Club, and even extending across the border to Fort William Historical Park's Canada Gateway Centre in Grand Marais.

To capitalize on four-season destination marketing and packaging, FWHP has also spearheaded the creation of the innovative Kaministiquia River Heritage Parkway, which offers discount admissions and packages for dozens of quality attractions and tourism operations found along the Kam River delta.

Like its historic namesake, Fort William Historical Park is proud to partner with top-notch organizations to lead in stimulating the economy and improving the quality of life in Northwestern Ontario.
