North Rock Engineering is the proponent of Fort William Historical Park – Wharf Erosion Mitigation project, which is an erosion mitigation initiative that involves the addition of gabion baskets, to be constructed adjacent to the existing wharf at the south end of the park along the Kaministiquia River. The figure shows the project location and the work and study areas for the project.
Following a review of the existing site conditions, and with the understanding that no work will occur within the waterway, North Rock has recommended a set of mitigation measures intended to minimize the potential for direct or indirect impacts to the Kaministiquia River throughout all phases of construction. Recognizing the sensitivity of the adjacent watercourse, the tender documents include the installation and maintenance of silt curtains prior to and during construction activities to contain sediment and minimize the potential for migration of disturbed soils or other construction materials into the river. These measures, together with adherence to standard erosion and sediment control best management practices, are recommended to minimize the potential for adverse environmental effects associated with the proposed works.
In addition, a request may be made to the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) for an order requiring a higher level of study (i.e., requiring a comprehensive EA approval before being able to proceed), or that conditions be imposed (e.g., require further studies), only on the grounds that the requested order may prevent, mitigate or remedy adverse impacts on constitutionally protected Aboriginal or treaty rights. Requests on other grounds will not be considered. Requests should include the requester contact information and full name.
